The young's modulus and its basic physical sense

The modulus of elasticity of structural material, or young's modulus, called the physical quantity that characterizes a property of material, ensuring their resistance to the strain acting in the longitudinal direction.

The parameter characterizes the degree of hardness of the specific material. The module name corresponds to the name of Thomas young, the famous English physicist and scientist, who was involved in the study of the processes of compression and extension for hard materials. This is indicated the physical quantity of the Latin letter E. the young's modulus is Measured in Pascals.

Parameter young's modulus, or modulus of elasticity, is used in various calculations in the testing of materials in the degree of deformation under tension-compression and in bending. I must say that the most used structural materials characterized by the indicator of young's modulus sufficiently large value, which, as a rule, are in the order of 109 PA. Therefore, for convenience of calculations and entries use the multiple prefix "Giga" (HPa). Below are the indicators of young's modulus for some structural materials that are frequently used for various practical purposes. Their properties of durability depends on the durability of building structures and other objects.

Graphical definition of young's modulus using the stress diagram, which depicts the curve generated by repeated tests on the same material strength. In this case, the physical meaning of young's modulus is finding the mathematical relationship of the normal stress to the corresponding strain indices in a particular area of the chart to exactly the limit of proportionality.

If you wanna to cultivate your child’s modulus and basic physical sense, you could choose some of the educational toys to teach him or her. Such as, wooden butterfly puzzle, hot air stirling engine, etc.
