As the market for drones grows, so does DJI maintaining a significant market share in the top 70%. The new Phantom 3 Standard (P3S) is the latest member of the popular Phantom Series 3 and try to reach a new audience with its features that makes it easier to fly with an affordable price of $ 799 (reference price US pre-tax and transportation). I recently visited the headquarters of DJI in China to see how this new drone compared to his older brothers, the Phantom 3 Professional (P3P) and the Phantom 3 Advanced (P3A). Let's have a look.
As P3S is part of the Phantom Series 3, the package is similar to that of other products in the series and is perfectly designed to be a compact package. The set includes a drone, a remote control, propellers, charger, accessories and parts manual. You just have to install the propellers and are ready to fly !, however for safety reasons, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the product manual before flying and avoid flying in areas not allowed.
While P3S is similar to other products in the series, a difference that does not include the visual positioning system that others have. This makes the drone is lighter, with a total weight of 1,216 grams, therefore, easier to transport and carry.
The remote control that comes with the P3S has been redesigned to be smaller and lighter than the P3P and P3A. As it is a product intended for beginners, the remote control is simplified with fewer buttons, so it is easier and more intuitive to use.
Unlike P3P and P3A, no need to use a USB cable to connect the remote control with your mobile device, because communication happens via wireless connection. The P3S supports live HD 720p and is capable of transmitting a range of 0.6 miles (1 km). An improvement over the Phantom 2 Vision + (P2V +) is the new WiFi Extender is integrated with the remote control P3S and both share the same battery. This unique design simplifies the use of control and will not have to charge the two parts separately.
The highlight of P3S is its camera, which is capable of recording video at 2.7K HD (2704 × 1520 pixels), which is not commonly seen in drones for beginners. Compared with the other two models Phantoms, the P3P is capable of recording video 4K while the P3A recorded at 1080p.
The P3S is equipped with a wide-angle lens with 94⁰ FOV (Field of View), aperture f / 2.8 and takes pictures at 12 megapixels, whether in JPEG or DNG RAW for those wanting to preserve the maximum amount of detail in your photos.
Additionally, if you need some of the gimbal equipment, I have a good suggestion for you. That is you can take a consideration upon Zhiyun Z1 Rider-M Gimbal, Zhiyun Z1-Evolution Gimbal, or Zhiyun ZI-Tiny2 Gimbal. Each of them is excellent and can match with any kind of sports camera, very suitable for your Phantom P3S.
